In the last six months or so I have become utterly obsessed with Emma Blackery, particularly due to the growth of her gaming channel BirdyBoots. Being completely honest, I was never a fan of Emma's older music, but upon hearing that a new EP was going to be released, I was curious to see what I would think.
And I am officially in love. The first single 'Sucks To Be You' was released a couple of weeks ago along with the video, and I had it on repeat for the rest of the day! It's catchy, it's fun, and most of all it's empowering. It is less complex than the other two tracks in terms of accompaniment, but it is perfect for a memorable single.

The next track, 'Look What You Made Me Do' is so 2002 pop punk that it hurts...in the best way, of course. I feel it is the weaker of the three songs in terms of Emma's vocals, but the chorus is so incredible catchy that I can forget about anything else! It definitely has an Avril Lavigne vibe about it, and the guitar riffs are wonderfully melodious.
The last track, 'Let Me Be', really steps up the game; Emma's vocals are incredibly mature, singing fantastically original lyrics. My favourite thing about this track is that it feels extremely current, yet is still reminiscent of 00s pop punk through the accompaniment. 'Let Me Be' is definitely my favourite of the three tracks, and it feels like it should be endlessly replayed on the radio as the latest summer anthem!
Overall, the 'Sucks To Be You' EP is a definite step up from Emma's previous work. It is extremely mature in all aspects, and feels so much more professional in its production. This EP is completely my cup of tea and I cannot wait to see what Emma has to offer next!
